Shavige upma (vermicelli upma). Semiya upma or vermicelli upma recipe - Popular South Indian breakfast made with vermicelli. Semiya is a south Indian term that refers to vermicelli and is known as shavige in kannda & seviyan in hindi. UPMA is a one pot breakfast dish made with tempering ingredients.
One is this with tomato and roasted vermicelli and the other one is with lemon juice and without roasting the vermicelli. The ingredients are almost similar to rave uppittu or semolina upma, which I have posted earlier. Easy upma made with Rice Vermicelli or Akki Shavige. You can have Shavige upma (vermicelli upma) using 23 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you achieve it.
Ingredients of Shavige upma (vermicelli upma)
- You need 2 cup of roasted vermicelli.
- You need 1 of onion.
- You need of Green peas.
- You need 2 tsp of shredded coconut.
- Prepare 10 of peanuts.
- You need 4-5 of cashews.
- It's 4-5 of raisins.
- You need 1 tsp of oil.
- You need 0.5 tsp of mustard seeds.
- It's 0.5 tsp of Urrad dal.
- It's 0.5 tsp of Channa dal.
- Prepare leaves of Curry.
- You need leaves of Coriander.
- You need 0.5 tsp of turmeric powder.
- You need 0.25 tsp of lemon.
- Prepare 1 of cinnamon stick.
- Prepare 1 tsp of jaggery.
- You need 1 inch of ginger chopped.
- You need Pinch of hing.
- It's 3 of green chillies.
- It's of Salt.
- You need 4 cup of water.
- It's 1 tsp of ghee.
Upma and Poha are regular breakfast or brunch snacks at home. They are quick to prepare and do not take much time. Planning for coming day's breakfast becomes a tough task for all married women (so called Gruhini in Indian Language). It would become more complicated after having a kid.
Shavige upma (vermicelli upma) instructions
- In a pan take oil + mustard seeds+urrad dal + Channa dal + curry leaves + cashews + raisins + peanuts + ginger + chilli and sauté for awhile.
- Now add a cinnamon stick + onion + green peas + turmeric and sauté well until onions are cooked..
- Now add 4 cups water + salt + jaggery + lemon and allow the water to boil..
- Once it’s boiled add roasted vermicelli + ghee to it. Boil in medium flame until vermicelli is cooked and water evaporates..
- Now add shredded coconut + coriander leaves and mix well. Let it cool for 15 minutes and then serve it..
Morning breakfast should be healthy, filling & your child should also eat it without complaining!! Akki Shavige Uppittu/ Rice Vermicelli Upma. This Uppittu or upma is made with akki shavige which means rice vermicelli. Whenever I make upma hubby wants it simple means there is no extra loaded veggies, he likes it with only onion.
